There are are number spyware software titles that can aid you in removing spyware. These can be downloaded from the web for free.

HijackThis

This is an extremely useful tool for manually removing spyware (and other security threats). It lets you see what programs are set to load on start up, what processes are running, etc. and it lets you remove them.

CWShredder

This is a freeware program that scans and removes variations of the CoolWebSearch browser hijacker.

Ad-Aware

This is a very popular spyware scanner. Not to be confused with the terms 'adware'. A free version is available as well as a paid version with more features.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Spybot is another popular spyware scanner. It is also free.

Unlocker

While programs and files are in use, they cannot be deleted. This is where Unlocker comes in. Once installed, this program can unlock the handles, end processes for you so you're able to delete the files. This goes for the spyware executables and DLL files too!

There are many other spyware removal tools but some of them are spyware or contain spyware themselves. Some are not effective or completely useless. It is best to stick to the reputable programs. Search for reviews if unsure.
